Crucible is a team-based action shooter driven by the choices you make. Each match in Crucible is a fight for survival and control. Not only will you be going toe-to-toe with your fellow competitors, but you’ll have to adapt and overcome all the challenges the planet itself throws your way. You and your teammates will need to work together to take down alien creatures, capture objectives, and pursue your opponents in search of victory.
Step 1: Playing Conditions
Read below the game basic characteristics. If it is something you see yourself playing, move on to Step 2: Graphics & Sound.
Crucible is a shooter game released with 1 map, 3 PVP game modes, and 10 characters, called HUNTERS, to choose from, all with different stats, weapons, and skills. The main game mode, Heart of the Hives, is a shooter with MOBA gameplay mechanics. TEAMWORK and COMMUNICATION are essential to fully experience the potential and fun of this game.
To be competitive and feel in control of the game, you will have to learn about all hunters and how the game modes work. There will be a lot of fights and action, but JUST KILLING ENEMIES WOULDN’T BRING VICTORY. Strategy and combat tactics play a big role in what team takes the win.
As Crucible still doesn’t have any in-game communication features, players are gathering up at its official Discord Channel.
Step 2: Graphics & Sound
Watch 5 to 10 minutes of any video below. If you like what you see and hear, move on to Step 3: Game Evaluation.
Step 3: Game Evaluation
Build your expectations about the game by learning what it offers and how was The Partisan Spy’s experience.
The game UI is SIMILAR to what is found in the action FPS multiplayer shooting genre. The in-game HUD is minimalistic and a lot of graphic elements recall games as Overwatch or Apex Legends.
What THE GAME DOESN’T HAVE and can be expected by some, as most MOBA games have, is a minimap and a scoreboard during matches.
Crucible is not just the name of the game, it IS THE PLANET where all the action takes place. The game comes with a story to plot the conflict and give some background on the hunters, but it has NO INFLUENCE on the gameplay. It is a “cosmetic” element to help players get involved with the game, which is always something nice to have.
PVP team-based shooting games are an ABSOLUTE category in the gaming industry.
It has the potential to attract and keep players interest for long years. From established games as Overwatch and Apex, to new contenders as Call of Duty Warzone and Valorant, the biggest CHALLENGE for Crucible is to find a niche in such a competitive game category.
GAMEPLAY MOOD TRACKER
My mood HIT HIGH LEVELS through all the 25 hours of gameplay ending at an average of EXCITED.
It is an easy game to play but hard to master as hunters and game mode mechanics are full of small details to learn. The fun of this game is directly associated with the team you play and your wish to keep getting better.
You can play Crucible for dozens of hours with NO FEELING OF REPETITION.
Even though it has 1 map and only 10 hunters it follows the BASIC MECHANICS OF A MOBA GAME, making every match different from another. Future updates will surely bring a ranking system that can be associated by some to grinding.
LOVED THE MOST
How the gameplay succeeds in combining the action of a shooter game with the MOBA genre strategy.
DISLIKED THE MOST
THE GAME IS NOT FINISHED. It is clearly in its final development stages and players’ expectations could have been correctly balanced by labeling it as Early Access.
After 25 hours of CRUCIBLE the feeling that remains is that there is much more to play and learn. This is maybe the best impression someone can have about a game, the NEED TO PLAY MORE.
No doubt, the game is not perfect. There are server and matchmaking problems and really basic features are still missing. It’s hard to imagine a competitive PVP without a ranking system and these are classic characteristics of a game in Early Access stage.
To compensate for the feeling of lack of progression, the game was released with free credits to players redeem the pre-season Battle Pass. A gift called “Early Adopter Gift”.
Crucible is just missing a label.
The game doesn’t fail.
The core gameplay is there and IT IS FUN AND FREE.
Choices & Advice
DON’T PLAY IT
IF YOU ARE HAPPY WITH THE PVP FPS GAME YOU ALREADY PLAY.
WAIT TO PLAY
IF YOU DOUBT THE GAME WILL SUCCEED OR PREFER TO PLAY IT WHEN CLOSER TO THE “FINAL PRODUCT”.
IF YOU BELIEVE CRUCIBLE IS A STRONG CONTENDER TO BUILD A COMPETITIVE COMMUNITY.
(early access games is always a bet)
THIS CAN BE A +500 HOUR GAME. IF YOU INTENT TO PLAY AT A COMPETITIVE LEVEL, BEST TIME TO JOIN IS NOW.
