Gameplay Overview
Game knowledge, strategy, fast-thinking, and luck are what you need to be the last of 8 players in a Dota Underlords (DU) match. You are against the CLOCK at this game but the more you learn, the less time will be a problem. The learning curve is really slow but it doesn’t seem to be a problem for the gaming community. The Auto Chess category looks to be the next big thing. If you have DOTA 2 experience, you’ll start with an advantage, as heroes and items are based on it.

USER INTERFACE
As a multiplatform and crossplay game UI is the “BACKBONE” of Dota Underlords.
The game delivers beyond what should be expected in open beta. Mechanics and gameplay are extremely intuitive as you can play the entire game with TAP + DRAG & DROP.
STORY
DU is a board game. No story, just like a regular chess game. Beyond that, game items have interesting quotes. A possible FUTURE, as fans’ imagination grows, is side stories. Elements are already there: dozens of heroes, alliances, and enemies.
COMMUNITY POTENTIAL
The category Auto Chess (named after the game that made it popular) is the most recent and RUSHED bet of top game dev. houses. A response to the belief that Auto Chess will be the next big thing after Battle Royale. Too soon to be sure, but numbers show the POTENTIAL is real.
GAMEPLAY MOOD TRACKER
MOOD ANALYSIS
My mood was at ENTERTAINED for +90% of the 25 hours of gameplay and regularly EXCITED or above (for 0.06 point the average mood didn’t reach Excited).
The descending trend in the last half is natural as the game becomes familiar. It also shows the need for features like a ranking system.
GRIND FEELING
Auto Chess games bring the “magic” of the MOBA genre. The variety of heroes, items, and opponents (real players, not NPCs) makes every match a different experience.
Maybe the only situation you will experience “the grind feeling” at this game is after extended hours of gameplay.
LOVED THE MOST
How simple mechanics are VS how difficult it is to master the game.
DISLIKED THE MOST
Is understandable for an open beta game, but AI hero control needs work.
EVALUATION SUMMARY
A FREE game with a development complexity that can be compared to big titles of the gaming industry. Still being an open beta, Dota Underlords EXCELS in every variable of this evaluation.
New free features to come can make the game more engaging and will result in an even higher score. However, season paid passes, if influence in the gameplay (P2W), can have the opposite effect.
