Gameplay Overview
First of all, keep these two things in mind: Ghost Recon Breakpoint (GRB) is an ONLINE game (even in PVE mode) and it brings a MEDLEY of almost every feature seen on the shooting genre. The game maintains the basis of the previous title (Wildlands): tactical shooter in an open world and brings tones of features.
While doing the basics (shoot, collect, craft, manage inventory), you will also:
- level character, class, gear, weapons, skill tree and reward system.
- keep track of missions: main, side, faction, pvp and raid.
- collect blueprints, clues, loots, resources and various items.
- customize character, gear, and weapon.
The game can be an endless adventure for some or OVERWHELMING for others.
Back to GRB's core gameplay, the same mission can be played in many different ways. The challenge of the game is less about completing missions and more about how to do it in your own way. Master classes and skills, gear up and consider PVE as preparation for PVP and RAIDS.
There are several SMALL BUGS that don't interfere with the gameplay but can become annoying after a few hours.

STORY

|
SOCIAL STATUS POTENTIAL |
There is no big mistake on GRB UI, but the quantity of content and features gives the feeling it's always CLUTTERED.
There is so much to show, so many tab levels that any design would look confusing. Takes TIME to understand the logic behind it and what each tab represents in the game. The in-game overlay is minimalist and the dynamic feature brings a clean aspect to it. The only exception is the huge mission tracking list.

PVE content in this game is HUGE. After 25 hours of gameplay the feeling was that not even 30% was completed. Most missions have dialogues and there are dozens of cutscenes to tell the story.
GRB has a feature where players can choose how game immersion will be: GUIDED or EXPLORATION MODE. The first option marks waypoints on the map, while the second hides them and players must find their way reading clues. On a side note, story has no influence in PVP mode.

Even though PVP is really BASIC (2 modes on 4v4), the game brings other elements that grow its potential. Tom Clancy's is a huge brand and has a well-established community. Ghost Recon is a recognized series on the genre. Every PVE content on the game can be played in CO-OP mode and RAID MODE also brings players together.
As GRB was released, a one-year roadmap of new content to be delivered was announced, which may help keep the game "alive" among the community. |
GAMEPLAY MOOD TRACKER
MOOD ANALYSIS
Vertical Divider
Vertical Divider
The tracker shows a clear pattern of my mood while playing GRB. During the entire gameplay, my mood was in-between NORMAL and ENTERTAINED and spiked to EAGER when it became more challenging.
In the first few hours the biggest challenge was to learn and "digest" all content delivered, the same happened at the last hours when playing PVP. The other spike occasions happened when missions were harder and made me change my gameplay strategy. |
GRIND FEELING
Vertical Divider
Vertical Divider
Even though the gameplay is REPETITIVE and puts you in "automatic mode" at certain moments, there was no grind feeling during the 25 hours of evaluation. The story and cutscenes play a huge roll in that.
But the possibility of feeling the grind, in the long run, will only grow. The reward system, weapons upgrade, daily cap on points and other gaming mechanics are set to REWARD GRINDING and encourage microtransactions. |
LOVED THE MOST
The quantity and quality of cutscenes to tell the game story.
DISLIKED THE MOST
Small bugs all over the game and unclear respawn logic after death, mainly during a mission.

EVALUATION SUMMARY
16 editions of Ghost Recon have been released since the first Ghost Recon (2001). When looking back, it's hard to believe that it will keep loyal to the game identity presented today. It's possible that it will completely change on its next release. Again.
There lies the CONTRADICTION. Ghost Recon Breakpoint is a game that demands time and commitment to be fully enjoyed. Players that commit to having a MAIN game usually expect sequels that bring an evolution of the game and not something totally different. Because of that, the EXPECTATION you should set for GRB goes beyond the game itself. COMMITMENT: ask yourself if this will be your MAIN game for the next 6 to 12 months. Remember that if you just want to play "a part of the game", there are similar or even better versions of these parts in other games, including Tom Clancy's titles. For example, Rainbow Six has a broader and more structured PVP experience. THE 17th EDITION: ask yourself if you will regret it, if the game totally changes in the next title. Regardless of my choice on the section below, your answer to these questions is my best advice. |
